The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: Dan Slocum, John Wyble, Bruce Brown, John Breland, Matthew Tate, Alan McCain, Mary Adams, and Lesley McKinley. Absent: Dewitt Perry.
Agenda Item #1 - Call to order
The meeting was called to order by President Alan McCain.
Agenda Item #2 - Invocation
The invocation was given by Lesley McKinley.
Agenda Item #3 - Pledge of Allegiance
Agenda Item #4 - Presentation from LSU Ag Center - Henry Harrison (Darrell Fairburn).
Henry Harrison, County Agent gave a brief update on the programs in the school system. He also introduced a new Food & Nutrition Agent, Kate Farbe.
Emily Becnel, 4-H Agent gave an update on the 4-H programs in the schools. Patrick White, MHS 4-H student was present at tonight’s meeting and gave a brief presentation on his 4-H projects.
Superintendent Fairburn recognized the Young Author State winners from each school as follows:

Superintendent also recognized Jeremy Wolfe, VHS Long Jump State Champion. Mr. Wolfe jumped 23 ft.
Leslie McGhee, FHS softball coach, was named Softball Coach of the Year.
The Board congratulated all of the winners and coach of the year.
Agenda Item #5 - Consider a motion to adopt the minutes of the April 12, 2012, regular board meeting (Alan McCain).
It was moved by John Breland, seconded by Lesley McKinley, that the Board adopt the minutes of the April 12, 2012, regular board meeting as submitted to each member. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #6 - Consider a motion to authorize advertisement for bids for the purchase of Bakery Products, Milk and Other Food and Non-Food Supplies for the School Lunch Program for the 2012/2013 school year (Marsha Newman).
It was moved by Bruce Brown, seconded by Lesley McKinley, that the Board authorize advertisement for bids for the purchase of Bakery Products, Milk and Other Food and Non-Food Supplies for the School Lunch Program for the 2012/2013 school year as follows:

Agenda Item #7 - Consider a motion to renew the contract of Rita Mulina, Title I Coordinator, Central Office (Darrell Fairburn).
It was moved by Dan Slocum, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the Board renew the contract of Rita Mulina, Title I Coordinator, Central Office for a contract period of two years from May 24, 2012 through May 23, 2014. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #8 - Consider a motion to renew the contract of Renee Burris, Principal, Mt. Hermon School (Darrell Fairburn).
It was moved by Bruce Brown, seconded by Dan Slocum, that the Board renew the contract of Renee Burris, Principal, Mt. Hermon School for a contract period of two years from June 1, 2012 through May 31, 2014. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #9 - Consider a motion to renew the contract of Grant Gerald, Assistant Principal of Instruction, Franklinton High School (Darrell Fairburn).
It was moved by John Wyble, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the Board renew the contract of Grant Gerald, Assistant Principal of Instruction, Franklinton High School for a contract period of two years from June 11, 2012 through June 10, 2014. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #10 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding Personnel and Transportation Adjustments (Richard Kennedy).

Agenda Item #11 - Consider a motion to employ Personnel and Substitutes for the 2012/2013 school year (Richard Kennedy).
It was moved by Matthew Tate, seconded by Lesley McKinley, that the Board employ Personnel and Substitutes for the 2012/2013 school year. SEE ATTACHED. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #12 - Superintendent’s Report
ADD TO THE AGENDA: It was moved by Lesley McKinley, seconded by Bruce Brown, to discuss and take appropriate action regarding bids received on 4 projects (WRES Gym, WRES Concession, FPS Auditorium and FPS Classroom). Motion carried unanimously.

Meeting with teachers and staff at schools on May 17th. Eastside meets at 8:00 a.m. at Pine School and Westside at Franklinton Primary School at 12:00 p.m.
Will plan to meet in July on long term goals.
Agenda Item #13 - Other business from board members.
John Wyble would like for the system to work toward a parish calendar. He also thinks the time is coming for the system to meet students with technology.
Matthew Tate reminded everyone that next week is Teacher Appreciation Week.
Brandon Taylor, former FHS Demon and LSU Tiger was drafted in the NFL by the San Diego Chargers.
April is Autism Month. Charlotte Fasola invited everyone to come out for the Autism Fun Run at the Fairgrounds on Saturday.
