The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: Richard Thomas, Jr., Dan Slocum, Karl Bickham, Bruce Brown, Hayward Boone, Susanne Jones, Matthew Tate and Freddie Jefferson. Absent: Holly James.

Agenda Item #6 - Consider a motion to renew the contract of employment for Frances Varnado, Principal, Enon Elementary School (Dennie Fowler).
It was moved by Susanne Jones, seconded by Freddie Jefferson, that the Board renew the contract of employment for Frances Varnado, Principal, Enon Elementary School from July 28, 2005 through July 27, 2007. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #7 - Consider a motion to authorize advertisement on August 24, 2005, that a Public Hearing on the Washington Parish School Board Budgets will be held September 15, 2005 at 6:00 P.M. (Donna Alonzo).

It was moved by Karl Bickham, seconded by Hayward Boone, that the Board call a Special Committee Meeting on September 8, 2005, at 6:30 P.M. for the Proposed General Fund Budgets. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #9 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding recommendations from John Norris, Insurance Consultant, for Excess Workers Compensation and Third Party Administrator for Workers Compensation (Beth Fussell).
Mr. Thomas recommended voting on these two items separately.
Upon the recommendation of John Norris, Insurance Consultant, it was moved by Freddie Jefferson, seconded by Matthew Tate, that the Board approve Midwest with an annual premium of $23,454.00 for Excess Workers Compensation. Also bidding was: Safety with an annual premium of $30,371.00. Motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Susanne Jones, seconded by Dan Slocum, that the Board approve Trinity Services, Mandeville, LA with a fixed fee of $2,990.00 as our Third Party Administrator for Workers Compensation. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #10 - Consider a motion to amend the District Technology Plan (Jimmy Thigpen).
Upon the recommendation of Jimmy Thigpen, Technology Technical Support Coordinator, it was moved by Freddie Jefferson, seconded by Matthew Tate, that the Board approve the amended District Technology Plan. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Susanne Jones, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the Board award the bid for Bakery Products for the School Lunch Program for the 2005/2006 school year to Interstate Bread Company/Cotton Holsum Bakery. Motion carried unanimously. Interstate was the only bid received.
Upon the recommendation of Marsha Newman, School Food Service Supervisor, it was moved by Freddie Jefferson, seconded by Bruce Brown, to add the following item to the agenda: Discuss and take appropriate action regarding bids received for the purchase of Milk Products for the School Lunch Program for the 2005/2006 school year. Motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Freddie Jefferson, seconded by Matthew Tate, that the Board award the bid for Milk Products for the School Lunch Program for the 2005/2006 school year to Brown's Dairy - firm pricing. Motion carried unanimously.
Superintendent Fowler gave a brief update on all construction projects.
Agenda Item #15 - Other business from board members.
Karl Bickham reminded the Board about the Finance Committee Meeting immediately following the Board Meeting.
Richard Thomas commended the Pine FFA Chapter on an outstanding year. Pine FFA leads the state in proficiency awards. There are 52 categories established by National FFA where the student can gain their work experience. This year Pine FFA was represented in 22 of the categories. Of the 42 Proficiency Awards submitted on the State Level, Pine FFA members were ranked in the top four in 22 of the award areas, leading the state with 25 Proficiency Awards received on the State Level. Of the 25 awards received 6 were 1st place honors that will advance to compete on the National Level. All Board members congratulated Pine FFA for a job well done.
