The Superintendent shall be responsible for maintaining the schedule and pertinent regulations governing the taking of annual leave.  Principals shall take annual leave at times when students are not in school, except in cases of emergency, at the discretion of the Superintendent.

An employee shall be required to apply for annual leave in advance of the time annual leave is desired.  Said application must be approved by the employee's immediate supervisor and the Superintendent.  Should annual leave be denied, other arrangements shall be mutually agreed upon.

Regularly employed part-time employees shall earn annual leave on a pro-rata basis and will have leave reduced in proportion to the hours they actually work.  Example:  An employee who works twenty (20) hours per week would earn 20/40 or 2 the amount of leave earned by a full time employee.

Annual leave must be applied for by the employee in advance and must be approved by his/her supervisor and the Superintendent of Schools.  If approval for leave is denied due to work load of an employee, as determined by his/her supervisor, the leave may be accrued.  Authorized leave shall be charged to accrued leave in multiples of 2 day.  Leaves of less than 2 days shall be charged as (1) full half day.

The accrued unused annual leave earned by an employee shall be carried forward to the succeeding fiscal year, but annual leave carried forward in this manner shall not exceed the equivalent of ten (10) working days, except professional personnel may accrue up to forty-five (45) working days to be used once each five (5) years for professional or advanced study only.

Upon the resignation, death, removal or other termination of employment, annual leave accrued to the employee's credit shall be computed, the value thereof may be paid the employee or his/her heirs provided that the annual leave has been accrued under established leave regulations and a daily attendance and leave record has been maintained for the employee by his/her supervisor.  Any unused annual leave paid at the time of separation (termination, resignation, retirement, entrance into DROP, or death) shall be paid to the employee or his/her heirs on or before the next regular payday for the pay cycle during which the employee was working at the time of separation or no later than fifteen (15) days following the date of separation, whichever occurs first, at the employee's daily rate of pay.

No annual leave shall accrue to the employee while he/she is on leave without pay, but annual leave shall accrue while employee is on sabbatical leave or sick leave with pay.

An employee earns annual leave commencing with the date of employment and annual leave is computed on a fiscal year basis from this anniversary date, but annual leave is accrued on a calendar fiscal basis as of July 1st.

Annual leave will not be granted for any one continuous period in excess of fifteen (15) days except for professional or advanced study.

Holidays, as established by the Board, will not be counted as annual leave days.

Holidays for the Central Office Staff shall be established by the Superintendent.
