The Washington Parish School Board is responsible for the creation, operation, and appraisal of public education in Washington Parish.  The Board has the authority to determine and establish written policies and to evaluate their effectiveness.  It shall also act as an appraisal body sitting in judgment on recommendations that may come to it which concern the progress and improvements of the schools.  The function of the School Board shall not be to operate the schools, but to see that they are operated for the best interests of the children and taxpayers.  The School Board may also make recommendations and regulations for its own government not inconsistent with law or with the regulations of the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), as it may deem proper.
