The Washington Parish School Board met in special session on the above date with the following members present: President Bob D. Bateman, Jimmie Corkern, John Dawsey, Jr., Harold Smith, Bringier H. Barker, Susanne Jones, Richard N. Thomas and Elaine Whaley. Absent: None.
Agenda Item 11 - Opening of meeting
The meeting was called to order by President Bateman. Invocation was given by John Dawsey.
Agenda Item #2 -Discuss and take appropriate action concerning the withdrawal of Mrs. Victoria A. Crain's application for School Food Service Supervisor
Upon the recommendation of President Bateman, it was moved by B. H. Barker, seconded by Susanne Jones, that the Board accept the withdrawal of Mrs. Victoria A. Crain's application for School Food Service Supervisor. Motion carried unanimously.
Upon the recommendation of Superintendent Coleman, it was moved by Jimmie Corkern, seconded by B. H. Barker, that the Board re-advertise for the position of School Food Service Supervisor, with the new hiring policy being followed. Motion carried unanimously. The review committee will recommend the top three (3) applicants to the Board, and the Board will interview and hire at the next regularly scheduled board meeting on July 28, 1994. Advertising dates will be July 6, 13 & 20, 1994, and applications will be accepted until July 21, 1994, at 4:00 P.M.
Agenda Item 13 -Consider a motion to enter into Executive Session for the purpose of interviewing applicants for the position of Principal
It was moved by B. H. Barker, seconded by Susanne Jones, that the Board enter into Executive Session for the purpose of interviewing applicants for the position of Principal. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #4 - Consider a motion to return to Regular Session
It was moved by John Dawsey, seconded by Jimmie Corkern, that the Board return to regular session. Motion carried unanimously.
President Bateman stated that each candidate was asked whether they would like for their interview to be held in open or closed session. Each candidate chose closed session. (Candidates for Franklinton High School principalship were Matthew Tate and Beverly Young. The candidate for Varnado High School principalship was Emma Ross.)
Agenda Item 16 -Consider a motion to employ a Principal for Varnado High School
It was moved by John Dawsey, seconded by Jimmie Corkern, that the Board employ Emma Ross as Principal, Varnado High School, for a two-year period beginning July 1, 1994, and ending June 30, 1996. Roll Call Vote was as follows:

Agenda Item 15 -Consider a motion to employ a Principal for Franklinton High School
It was moved by Susanne Jones, seconded by Jimmie Corkern, that the Board employ Beverly Young as Principal, Franklinton High School, for a two-year period, beginning July 1, 1994, and ending June 30, 1996. Roll Call Vote was as follows:

The vote being SEVEN (7) FOR and ONE (1) AGAINST, the motion carried.
President Bateman stated that the Board will accept applications for the position of Principal, Franklinton Jr. High School, until July 13, 1994, at 4:00 P.M. Advertising dates in the Official Journal will be July 6 & 13, 1994. A special board meeting will be held July 14, 1994, to interview the top three (3) applicants and to employ a principal for Franklinton Jr. High School.
Mr. Barker stated that, in the quest for unanimity on the Board, and to let the public realize the Board is united in trying to keep education moving forward, he would like to go ahead and support Ms. Young.
On motion by John Dawsey, seconded by Harold Smith, and unanimously carried, the Board adjourned.
