The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: President Bob D. Bateman, Jimmie Corkern, John Dawsey, Jr., Harold Smith, Bringier H. Barker, Susanne Jones, Richard N. Thomas, and Elaine Whaley. Absent: None.
The meeting was called to order by President Bateman. Invocation was given by Freddie Jefferson. President Bateman welcomed the news media, School Board Attorney Wayne Kuhn, and guests.
Agenda Item #1 - Canvass the returns and declare the result of the special election held in School District No. 2 of the Parish of Washington, State of Louisiana, on Saturday, April 30, 1994
Superintendent Schilling stated it would be necessary for the Board to pass a resolution canvassing the returns of the April 30 election on the renewal of the 4.83 mills property tax, which proposition was submitted to the voters pursuant to a resolution adopted by the School Board on February 10, 1994.
It was moved by Harold Smith, seconded by B. H. Barker, that the following Resolution be adopted: SEE ATTACHED. Motion carried unanimously.
Superintendent Schilling stated the total vote, including absentee ballots, was 1,776 FOR the proposition and 442 AGAINST the proposition, so the millage renewal passed by a majority of 1,334 votes. Therefore, the election is declared to be carried, and the millage is authorized to be renewed for another ten years, beginning in 1994.

Motion carried unanimously. Mr. Jefferson pointed out that the Pupil Appraisal Team had been deleted from the list due to certain matters that needed to be resolved. Hopefully, the Board can take action on re-employment of these individuals at the special meeting scheduled for Monday, May 23, 1994. Mr. Jefferson also pointed out that only certified and/or tenured teachers were included on the re-hire list.

It was moved by B. H. Barker, seconded by Susanne Jones, that the Board enter into Executive Session under LA R.S. 42:6.IA(l) concerning the discussion of character, professional competence or physical or mental health of candidates for the position of Superintendent. Motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by John Dawsey, seconded by Jimmie Corkern, that the Board go out of Executive Session. Motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by B. H. Barker, seconded by Harold Smith, that the Board adjourn. Motion carried unanimously.
