The Washington Parish School Board met in special session on the above date with the following members present: President Bob D. Bateman, Jimmie Corkern, John Dawsey, Jr., Harold Smith, Bringier H. Barker, Susanne Jones,
Richard N. Thomas, and Elaine Whaley. Absent: None.
The meeting was called to order by President Bateman.
Invocation was given by John Dawsey.
Upon the recommendation of President Bateman, it was moved by Harold Smith, seconded by B. H. Barker, that the Board appoint Raylene T. Perry to serve as Secretary in the absence of Superintendent/Secretary Dr. Guy V. Schilling. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item 11 - Presentation by Hoyt Watson of the finalists for the position of Superintendent
Mr. Watson informed the Board that the finalists were as follows:
Robert Coleman, Superintendent, LaSalle Parish Schools, Jena, LA; Don Mercer, Deputy Superintendent, Katy dependent School District, Katy, Texas; Clifton Milstead, Superintendent, Jackson Parish Schools, Jonesboro, LA; and Cliff Wishum, Superintendent, Marked Tree Schools, Marked Tree, Arkansas. A fifth finalist withdrew because he/she did not want the media attention in his/her hometown. At President Bateman's request, Mr. Watson briefly reviewed the four (4) finalists. The Board then discussed the interview schedule/process, which would begin Monday, May 16, 1994, and continue through Thursday, May 19, 1994.
The Board recessed for ten (10) minutes.
Agenda Item #2 - Executive Session under LA R.S. 42:6.IA(l) concerning the discussion of character, professional competence or physical or mental health of candidates for the position of Superintendent
It was moved by John Dawsey, seconded by B. H. Barker, that the Board enter into Executive Session under LA R.S. 42:6.IA(l) concerning the discussion of character, professional competence or physical or mental health of candidates for the position of Superintendent. Motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by B. H. Barker, seconded by John Dawsey, that the Board go out of Executive Session. Motion carried unanimously.
Following a discussion regarding the interview questions, it was moved by Harold Smith, seconded by Elaine Whaley, that the Board adjourn. Motion carried unanimously.
