The Washington Parish School Board met in special session on the above date with the following members present: President Bob D. Bateman, Jimmie Corkern, John Dawsey, Jr., Harold Smith, Bringier H. Barker, Susanne Jones, Richard N. Thomas, and Elaine Whaley. Absent: None. The meeting was called to order by President Bateman. Invocation was given by Freddie Jefferson. President Bateman welcomed all in attendance. Mr. Freddie Jefferson, Assistant Superintendent, served as Secretary in the absence of Superintendent Guy Schilling.

 

President Bateman stated the special meeting was called for the purpose of selecting a consulting firm to begin the search for a new superintendent. He and Mr. Barker reviewed the reference checks on all three consulting firms under consideration.

 

Following discussion, it was moved by B. H. Barker, seconded by Susanne Jones, that the Board select a consulting firm by a process of elimination, whereby the firm receiving the majority of the votes of those members voting would be the firm chosen. FOR: John Dawsey, B. H. Barker, Susanne Jones, Bob Bateman, and Elaine Whaley. OPPOSED: Jimmie Corkern, Harold Smith and Richard N. Thomas. Motion carried.

 

President Bateman called for any abstentions on the vote to follow. There were none.

 

President Bateman then called the names of the firms in the order interviews were conducted.

 

Voting in favor of Bob Fortenberry, Group Partners, Inc., were John Dawsey and B. H. Barker.

 

Voting in favor of Townley & Watson Consulting Firm were Susanne Jones, Elaine Whaley, and Bob Bateman.

 

There were no votes cast in favor of Bob Thompson Associates.

 

Not voting for any firm were Richard N. Thomas, Jimmie Corkern and Harold Smith.

 

President Bateman declared that Townley & Watson will serve as consultant for the Washington Parish School System in the superintendent's search.

 

It was moved by B. H. Barker, seconded by John Dawsey, that the Board adjourn. Motion carried unanimously.
