The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: John Wyble, Bruce Brown, Robert Boone, Kendall McKenzie, Alan McCain, Lesley McKinley, Dewitt Perry, Frankie Crosby and Dan Slocum.  Absent:  None.

Agenda Item #4 – Consider a motion to adopt the minutes of the April 7, 2022, regular board meeting (John Wyble).

 

   It was moved by Frankie Crosby, seconded by Robert Boone that the Board adopt the minutes of the April 7, 2022, regular board meeting as presented to each member.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

            Agenda Item #5 – Presentation on March 2022 financial statements (Lacy Burris).

 

Lacy Burris, Director of Finance, presented the March 2022 financial statements for the following funds:

Tax District #4 Bond Sinking Fund

 

Agenda Item #6 – Consider a motion to approve an allocation to schools for the 2022/2023 school year (Lacy Burris).

It was moved by Alan McCain, seconded by Kendall McKenzie that the Board authorize advertisement on August 17, 2022, that a Public Hearing on the Washington Parish School Board Budgets will be held September 6, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.  Motion carried unanimously.

It was moved by Dewitt Perry, seconded by Alan McCain that the Board adopt a resolution to adopt the millage rates as follows:                                                              

 

RESOLUTION

 

            BE IT RESOLVED, that the following millage(s) are hereby levied on the 2022 tax roll on all property subject to taxation by Washington Parish School Board:

            BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the proper administrative officials of the Parish of Washington, State of Louisiana, be and they are hereby empowered, authorized, and directed to spread said taxes, as hereinabove set forth, upon the assessment roll of said Parish for the year 2022, and to make the collection of the taxes imposed for and on behalf of the taxing authority, according to law, and that the taxes herein levied shall become a permanent lien and privilege on all property subject to taxation as herein set forth, and collection thereof shall be enforceable in the manner provided by law.

 

            The foregoing resolution was read in full, the roll was called on the adoption thereof, and the resolution was adopted by the following votes:

It was moved by Frankie Crosby, seconded by Kendall McKenzie that the Board adopt a Special Meeting, May 19, 2022, 6:00 p.m. at the Washington Parish School Board Office. Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #10 – Consider a motion to increase the approved one-time supplement for all employees to be paid in May (John Wyble).

 

It was moved by Frankie Crosby, seconded by Robert Boone that the Board increase this one-time supplement to $1,000.00

TRANSPORTATION ADJUSTMENTS

 

Franklinton:                                                                   Extend the route of Loretta Stafford 4.3 miles one way to pick up student on Hwy 10, Franklinton.  Effective date:  April 4, 2022.

 

It was moved by Frankie Crosby, seconded by Alan McCain that the Board approve the Transportation Adjustments.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #14 – Superintendent’s Report

 

Ms. Varnado recognized Volunteers for their service at Varnado High School.  A group of men from the community volunteered time and resources to recondition the girls’ softball field.  They were recognized and presented with a certificate.

Dr. Brumley, State Superintendent visited Washington Parish and Ms. Varnado gave an update on the visit.

Ms. Varnado stated she attends the Parish council and the Town Hall Meetings to give the organizations updates on the School System.

Retirement Reception for the District will be July 21, 2022 at the Regular School Board Meeting.

Dr. Johnson was recognized to speak. He requested a sign be placed at the Franklinton Primary School in commemoration of the former Washington Parish High School.

 

Add to the Agenda:  It was moved by Frankie Crosby, seconded by Bruce Brown that the Board approve the placement of a sign at Franklinton Primary School commemorating the former Washington Parish High School. Motion carried unanimously.

It was moved by Robert Boone, seconded by Frankie Crosby that the Board adopt a resolution:

 

Be it resolved the Washington Parish School Board authorizes the placement of a sign recognizing the former Washington Parish High School, to be handled by the Administration.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #15 -Personal Privileges-School Board Members

 

The Board thanked the Volunteers for their service to Varnado High School.

The Board congratulated employees in attendance that were newly hired and those changing positions.
