The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: John Wyble, Bruce Brown, Robert Boone, Kendall McKenzie, Alan McCain, Lesley McKinley, Dewitt Perry and Frankie Crosby.  Absent: Dan Slocum.

 

Agenda Item #1 - Call to order

 

The meeting was called to order by President John Wyble.

The invocation was given by Bruce Brown.

 

Agenda Item #3 – Pledge of Allegiance

 

Agenda Item #4 – Consider a motion to adopt the minutes of the March 19, 2020, regular board meeting (John Wyble).

 

   It was moved by Kendall McKenzie, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board adopt the minutes of the March 19, 2020, regular board meeting as presented to each member.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

            Agenda Item #5 – Presentation on February 2020 financial statements (Lacy Burris).

 

Lacy Burris, Director of Finance, presented the February 2020 financial statements for the following funds:

 

General Fund

School Lunch Fund

Tax District #4 Bond Sinking Fund

 

Agenda Item #6 – Discuss and take appropriate action on the employee annual leave carryover limit of ten (10) days for the 2019/2020 school year (Lacy Burris).

 

            It was moved by Dewitt Perry, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board approve the employee annual leave carryover limit of ten (10) days for the 2019/2020 school year only.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #7 – Discuss and take appropriate action on authorizing hazard pay for critical public facing employees during the Covid-19 Louisiana stay at home order (Lacy Burris).

 

It was moved by Dewitt Perry, seconded by Frankie Crosby, that the Board authorize hazard pay for critical public facing employees effective March 13, 2020.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #8 – Consider a motion to authorize advertisement for bids for the purchase of small equipment, milk, and non-food supplies for the School Lunch Program for the 2020/2021 school year (Marsha Newman).

 

It was moved by Alan McCain, seconded by Kendall McKenzie, that the Board authorize advertisement for bids for the purchase of small equipment, milk, and non-food supplies for the School Lunch Program for the 2020/2021 school year.  Motion carried unanimously.

Agenda Item #10 - Superintendent’s Report

 

            Since the first day of service which was March 18, 2020, the five sites for Washington Parish School System School Lunch Program have distributed 39,287 meals to students across the parish.  This is breakfast and lunch with 2 day’s meals served on Mondays and Wednesdays and only 1 day’s meals on Fridays.  The sites are Mt Hermon, Franklinton Jr High, Enon Elementary, Thomas Elementary, and Wesley Ray Elementary.  We will continue distributing meals until May 22, 2020 with the possibility of extending the dates if necessary.  The School Lunch staff at these sites have done an outstanding job preparing these Grab and Go meals for the students. 

 

Teachers will be allowed back in schools on Monday, May 4th in staggered groups with no more than 10 at a time.

 

            Graduation will be held in July pending the lift of the Stay at Home Order.

The Board thanked everyone for their hard work during this unprecedented time.

 

The Board thanked Superintendent Varnado for planning to have a traditional graduation if possible.
