The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: Dan Slocum, John Wyble, Bruce Brown, John Breland, Matthew Tate, Robert Boone, Dewitt Perry, and Lesley McKinley.  Absent:  Alan McCain.

 

Agenda Item #1 - Call to order

 

The meeting was called to order by President Matthew Tate.

 

Agenda Item #2 – Invocation

 

The invocation was given by Bruce Brown.

 

Agenda Item #3 – Pledge of Allegiance

 

Agenda Item #4 – Consider a motion to adopt the minutes of the July 19, 2018, regular board meeting (Matthew Tate).

 

It was moved by John Breland, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the Board adopt the minutes of the July 19, 2018, regular board meeting as submitted to each member.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #5 – FFA Recognition (Sandy Morgan)

 

Franklinton High FFA placed 1st in the State in the Nursery/Landscape Career Development event.  Members of this team are Sydney Ignacek, Kaitlyn Robertson, Jon Robbins, Emma Loyd, and Karina Alfaro.  They had a total team score of 1880 out of 1950 possible points.

 

The purpose of the Louisiana Nursery/Landscape CDE is to:

 

 

We are excited that these girls have the opportunity to represent Louisiana, Washington Parish, and Franklinton High School in the Nursery Landscape CDE at the 91st National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 23-27, 2018. 

 

Jeremy McKenzie and Vincent Bahm, 2 of the FHS Agriculture teachers were in attendance at tonight’s meeting along with the students.  The Board congratulated the students as well as the teachers for their hard work and dedication.

 

Agenda Item #6 – Presentation of June 2018 financial statements (Lacy Burris).

 

Lacy Burris, Director of Finance, presented the June 2018 financial statements at the Monday night committee meeting for the following funds:

 

General Fund

School Lunch Fund

Tax District #4 Bond Sinking Fund

 

Agenda Item #7 – Consider a motion to authorize advertisement for bids for Fiscal Agency Contract for a period of 2 years (Lacy Burris).

 

It was moved by Dewitt Perry, seconded by John Breland, that the Board authorize advertisement for Fiscal Agency Contract for a period of 2 years.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #8 – Discuss and take appropriate action regarding revised Washington Parish School Board Policy File:  GBRIBA – Family and Medical Leave (Mary Jones).

 

It was moved by Dewitt Perry, seconded by Robert Boone, that the Board adopt revised Washington Parish School Board Policy File:  GBRIBA – Family and Medical Leave.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #9 – Discuss and take appropriate action regarding a Cooperative Agreement to Support and Administer Louisiana Extension 4-H Youth Development and other Extension Programs (Darrell Fairburn).

 

It was moved by John Wyble, seconded by Robert Boone,that the Board approve a Cooperative Agreement to support and administer Louisiana Extension 4-H Youth Development and other Extension Programs for an annual payment of $10,000.00.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #10 – Consider a motion to employ and approve a contract for Katie Miller, Curriculum Coordinator of Testing and Accountability, Central Office (Darrell Fairburn).

 

It was moved by Dan Slocum, seconded by John Wyble, that the Board employ and approve a contract for Katie Miller, Curriculum Coordinator of Testing and Accountability, Central Office from August 1, 2018 through July 31, 2020.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #11 – Consider a motion to employ and approve a contract for Lee Bond, Assistant Principal of Instruction, Mt. Hermon School (Darrell Fairburn).

 

It was moved by Dan Slocum, seconded by John Breland, that the Board employ and approve a contract for Lee Bond, Assistant Principal of Instruction, Mt. Hermon School from August 13, 2018 through August 12, 2020.  Motion carried unanimously.

Agenda Item #14 - Personal Privileges – School Board Members

 

The Board congratulated every on their contracts.

 

John Wyble encouraged everyone to come to the meeting on September 13th for budget presentations.

 

Carol Pertuit, concerned parent, spoke to the Board about teacher certification.
