The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: Dan Slocum, John Wyble, Bruce Brown, John Breland, Alan McCain, Matthew Tate, Robert Boone, and Dewitt Perry. Absent: Lesley McKinley.
Agenda Item #1 - Call to order
The meeting was called to order by President Matthew Tate.
Agenda Item #2 – Invocation
The invocation was given by Bruce Brown.
Agenda Item #3 – Pledge of Allegiance
Agenda Item #4 – Recognition of April Partman, LAPCAE Support Personnel of the Year – Penny Moses (Darrell Fairburn).
Ms. Penny Moses recognized April Partman, Full-time Support Personnel of the Year for Louisiana Association for Public, Community and Adult Education (LAPCAE).
April B. Partman serves as Administrative Assistant and Data Clerk for the Washington Parish Adult Education Program. In addition, she is the HISET Test Administrator for Washington Parish. April is a native to Franklinton and has been responsible for assisting the adult education faculty and students in the community since 2006. Being the first face and voice in her department that potential adult education students encounter, it is her goal to make them feel relaxed and accepted. Her attention to detail is phenomenal and she takes pride in anything that she does whether big or small.
The Board congratulated Ms. Partman on her award and thanked her for her service to the system.
Superintendent Fairburn also recognized Sharon Mizell for going “Above and Beyond”. The Board expressed their appreciation for her service and dedication to the system as well as her willingness to do whatever is necessary.
Agenda Item #5 – Discuss gas and oil lease (Darrell Fairburn).
The Board will take under advisement the oil and gas lease for the old Angie Jr. High School property.
Agenda Item #6 – Announce that a public meeting will be held on November 12, 2015 at which time the board will consider a resolution to call an election (Darrell Fairburn).
Notice of Public Meeting
Notice is hereby given that at its meeting to be held on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parish School Board Office, 800 Main Street, Franklinton, Louisiana, the Parish School Board of the Parish of Washington, State of Louisiana, plans to consider adopting a resolution ordering and calling an election to be held in School District No. 2 of the Parish of Washington, to authorize the levy of an additional ad valorem tax.
Agenda Item #7 – Consider a motion to adopt the minutes of the September 10, 2015, regular board meeting (Matthew Tate).
It was moved by John Breland, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the Board adopt the minutes of the September 10, 2015, regular board meeting as submitted to each member. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #8 - Consider a motion to adopt the schedule of the school board meetings for 2016 (Darrell Fairburn).
It was moved by Dan Slocum, seconded by Dewitt Perry, that the Board adopt the schedule of the school board meetings for 2016 as follows:

It was moved by John Wyble, seconded by Robert Boone, that the Board adopt revised Washington Parish School Board Policy File: EDD – School Bus Scheduling and Routing; File: JCDB – Student Dress Code; File: JDD – Suspension and File: JDE – Expulsion. Motion carried unanimously.

Agenda Item #11 – Discuss and take appropriate action regarding Transportation Adjustments (Richard Kennedy).
It was moved by John Wyble, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board adopt the Transportation Adjustments as follows:
TRANSPORTATION ADJUSTMENTS
Franklinton District: Extend the route of Loretta Stafford 2.7 miles one way to pick up student on Heidelberg Road. Effective date: August 26, 2015.
Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #12 - Superintendent’s Report
Special Olympics will be on Wednesday, October 14th from 12 to 2 pm at Pine High School.
Agenda Item #13 - Personal Privileges – School Board Members
Laree Taylor a candidate for BESE District #6 was introduced and spoke briefly to the Board.
Agenda Item #14 - Consider a motion to adjourn.
It was moved by Alan McCain, seconded by John Wyble, that the Board adjourn. Motion carried unanimously.
