The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: Dan Slocum, John Wyble, Bruce Brown, John Breland, Alan McCain, Matthew Tate, Dewitt Perry and Lesley McKinley.  Absent:  Mary Adams.

 

Agenda Item #1 - Call to order

 

The meeting was called to order by President Matthew Tate.

 

Agenda Item #2 – Invocation

 

The invocation was given by Bruce Brown.

 

Agenda Item #3 – Pledge of Allegiance

 

Agenda Item #4 – Consider a motion to adopt the minutes of the July 17, 2014, regular board meeting (Matthew Tate).

 

  It was moved by John Breland, seconded by Bruce Brown that the Board adopt the minutes of the July 17, 2014, regular board meeting as submitted to each member.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #5 – Discuss and take appropriate action regarding student transfer requests for the 2014/2015 school year (Frances Varnado).

 

Upon the recommendation of Frances Varnado, Supervisor, it was moved by Dewitt Perry, seconded by Lesley McKinley, that the Board approve the student transfers for the 2014/2015 school year as submitted.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #6 – Discuss and take appropriate action regarding Pupil Progression Plan revisions for the 2014/2015 school year (Richard Kennedy).

 

It was moved by Dewitt Perry, seconded by Lesley McKinley, that the Board approve the Pupil Progression Plan revisions for the 2014/2015 school year as presented.  Motion carried unanimously.

Agenda Item #9 - Superintendent’s Report

 

Marsha Newman, Supervisor of School Lunch, gave an overview of the Community Eligibility Provision lunch program.

 

Alternative school is complete and ready for the beginning of school.

 

Summer retest results were due on August 6, 2014 but were receive early.

 

Graduation Rate for 2013 is 81.6% up .1%.

 

Principals meetings went very well.

 

School facilities are ready with a couple of exceptions with room air conditioners.  All rooms have at least one AC.  The Pro Start kitchen at FHS will not be ready for start of school.  We are waiting on the hood.

 

Elevator at Franklinton Jr. High is on order.

 

Spoke with all principals today and they told me that the schools are ready.  Some still have a few minor maintenance issues, but nothing to interfere with the opening of schools.

 

Franklinton bus routes have been modified.

 

Agenda Item #11 - Personal Privileges – School Board Members

 

The Board wished everyone a successful and safe school year.

 

John Wyble would like the Capital Improvement Committee to start a long range plan for Franklinton Jr. High School.

 

Agenda Item #12 - Consider a motion to enter into Executive Session under LA R.S. 42:17A (2) concerning prospective litigation.

 

It was moved by Bruce Brown, seconded by John Wyble, that the Board enter into Executive Session under LA R.S. 42:17A (2) concerning prospective litigation.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #13 - Consider a motion to return to regular session.

 

It was moved by Alan McCain, seconded by Bruce Brown that the Board return to regular session.  Motion carried unanimously.

Agenda Item #14 - Consider a motion to adjourn.

 

It was moved by John Wyble, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board adjourn.  Motion carried unanimously.
