The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: Dan Slocum, John Wyble, Bruce Brown, John Breland, Alan McCain, Matthew Tate, and Dewitt Perry,  Absent: Mary Adams and Lesley McKinley.

 

Agenda Item #1 - Call to order

 

The meeting was called to order by President Matthew Tate. 

 

Agenda Item #2 – Invocation

 

The invocation was given by Bruce Brown.

 

Agenda Item #3 – Pledge of Allegiance

 

Agenda Item #4 – 4 – H Presentation (Darrell Fairburn).

 

Superintendent Fairburn introduced Ms. Beth Blackwell, Washington Parish 4-H Agent.  Ms. Blackwell then introduced outstanding 4-H members as follows:

 

Elizabeth Barber            5th Grader at Thomas Elementary – 1st place in age Division with Dairy Poster @ both parish and state level

 

McKenzie McElveen      6th Grader at Pine School - Character Counts Award at 4-H Summer Camp for being an outstanding participant during the week’s events

 

Kaleb Danos                 12th Grader at Franklinton High School - – 2nd place over all for State Forestry Contest @ 4-H University which lead him to be on the State 4-H Forestry Team. State Team participated in the National 4-H Forestry Invitational in Weston, WV where the team placed 4th in the Nation…Fair City 4-H Club Member

 

Kreig Todd                    11th Grader at Franklinton High School - Elected State 4-H Reporter for the 2013-2014 year while @ 4-H University. He will serve his term with his focus on reporting state events thru the State 4-H Newsletter, The Rovin’ Clover… Fair City 4-H Club Member      

             

Agenda Item #5 - Consider a motion to adopt the minutes of the July 11, 2013, regular board meeting (Matthew Tate).

 

            It was moved by Bruce Brown, seconded by John Wyble, that the Board adopt the minutes of the July 11, 2013, regular board meeting as submitted to each member.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #6 - Consider a motion to adopt revised Washington Parish School Board Policy File: ABCDA – Unexpired Term Fulfillment; File: AE – School Year; File: BBBC – Board Member Continuing Education; File: EGAA – Worker’s Compensation; File: ID – Curriculum; File: IDCA – Summer School; File: IDCC – Kindergarten; File: IDE – Co-Curricular and Extracurricular Activities; File: IDG – Adult Education; File: JB – Attendance; File: JDD – Suspension; File: JGC – Student Health Services; File: JGCD – Administration of Medication; and File: JR – Student Records(Richard Kennedy).

 

It was moved by Dewitt Perry, seconded by Dan Slocum, that the Board adopt revised Washington Parish School Board Policy File: ABCDA – Unexpired Term Fulfillment; File: AE – School Year; File: BBBC – Board Member Continuing Education; File: EGAA – Worker’s Compensation; File: ID – Curriculum; File: IDCA – Summer School; File: IDCC – Kindergarten; File: IDE – Co-Curricular and Extracurricular Activities; File: IDG – Adult Education; File: JB – Attendance; File: JDD – Suspension; File: JGC – Student Health Services; File: JGCD – Administration of Medication; and File: JR – Student Records.  Motion carried unanimously.

It was moved by Dewitt Perry, seconded by John Wyble, that the Board adopt new Washington Parish School Board Policy File: IH – Academic Achievement; IHG – Credit Recovery and File: JBCF – Unsafe School Choice.  Motion carried unanimously.

Agenda Item #10 - Superintendent’s Report

 

            Superintendent Fairburn stated that all schools are ready to begin the new year.

 

            Sandy Morgan explained the foreign language classes for the parish.

 

Agenda Item #11 - Personal Privileges – School Board Members

 

The Board congratulated Alan McCain on his retirement from St. Tammany Parish School System with 34 years.

 

The Board wished all schools a great 2013/2014 school year.

It was moved by Bruce Brown, seconded by John Breland, that the Board adjourn.  Motion carried unanimously.
