The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: Dan Slocum, John Wyble, Bruce Brown, John Breland, Alan McCain, Matthew Tate, Mary Adams, and Dewitt Perry. Absent: Lesley McKinley. 

 

Agenda Item #1 - Call to order

 

The meeting was called to order by President Matthew Tate.

The invocation was given by Bruce Brown.

Agenda Item #4 – Recognize National School Nurse Week (Charlotte Fasola).

 

Item postponed till the June 6, 2013 meeting.

 

Agenda Item #5 – Consider a motion to adopt the minutes of the April 11, 2013 regular board meeting (Matthew Tate).

 

It was moved by John Breland, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the Board adopt the minutes of the April 11, 2013, regular board meeting as submitted to each member.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #6 – Consider a motion to authorize advertisement for bids for the purchase of Bakery Products, Milk and Other Food and Non-Food Supplies for the School Lunch Program for the 2013/2014 school year (Marsha Newman).

 

It was moved by Dewitt Perry, seconded by John Breland, that the Board authorize advertisement for bids for the purchase of Bakery Products, Milk and Other Food and Non-Food Supplies for the School Lunch Program for the 2013/2014 school year.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #7 – Consider a motion to adopt a resolution providing for canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the special election held in School District No. 2 of the Parish of Washington, State of Louisiana, on Saturday, April 6, 2013, to authorize the levy of a special tax herein (Beth Keaton).

 

It was moved by Dewitt Perry, seconded by John Wyble, that the Board adopt a resolution providing for canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the special election held in School District No. 2 of the Parish of Washington, State of Louisiana, on Saturday, April 6, 2013, to authorize the levy of a special tax herein.  Roll call vote:  Dan Slocum – for; John Wyble – for; Bruce Brown – for; John Breland – for; Mary Adams – for; Dewitt Perry – for; Alan McCain – for; and Matthew Tate – for; Lesley McKinley – absent.  Motion carried unanimously.

           

            Agenda Item #8– Consider a motion to adopt an Official Journal for period beginning July 1, 2013 and ending June 30, 2014 (Beth Keaton).

 

            It was moved by John Wyble, seconded by John Breland, that the Board appoint the Era Leader as the Official Journal for period beginning July 1, 2013 and ending June 30, 2014.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

            Agenda Item #9 – Consider a motion to approve an allocation to schools for the 2013/2014 school year (Beth Keaton).

 

            It was moved by John Breland, seconded by Dewitt Perry, that the Board approve an allocation to schools for the 2013/2014 school year as follows:

            Agenda Item #10 – Discuss and take appropriate action regarding an IDEA Budget Revision for the 2012/2013 school year (Lacy Burris).

 

            It was moved by Dewitt Perry, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the Board approve an IDEA Budget Revision for the 2012/2013 school year in the amount of $88,961.00.  Motion carried unanimously.

            It was moved by John Wyble, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board adopt Transportation Adjustments as follows:

 

TRANSPORTATION ADJUSTMENTS

Franklinton District:                          Extend the route of Carolyn Fussell 5.6 miles

                                                          one way to pick up Mason Tolbert.  Effective date:  April 15, 2013.  

                                                      Extend the route of Melaney Rauch 1.8 miles

                                                          one way to pick up Michael Andrade.  Effective date:  April 29, 2013.   

            Motion carried unanimously.

            Agenda Item #14 – Superintendent’s Report

 

            Young Author Reception May 21 @ 6:00 p.m. at the Parish Library.

            Superintendent announced the Young Author winners for the parish as follows:

 

 

 

All graduations were excellent.

 

Finance/Capital Improvement committee meeting on June 3rd at 5:30 pm.

 

Summer schedule of 4 days per week begins on June 3rd.

 

            Agenda Item #15 – Personal Privileges – School Board Members

 

            The Board congratulated Debra Byrd on her appointment as Principal of Mt. Hermon School beginning on July 1, 2013.  They also thanked Ms. Renee Burris on a job well done and wished her well on her new assignment.

 

            The Board congratulated the Senior Class of 2013.

 

            The Board congratulated Attorney Wayne Kuhn on being Citizen of the Year.

 

            Adult Education graduation is May 19th @ 2:00 p.m.
