The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: Dan Slocum, John Wyble, Bruce Brown, John Breland, Matthew Tate, Alan McCain, Mary Adams, Dewitt Perry and Lesley McKinley.  Absent: None.

 

Agenda Item #1 - Call to order

 

The meeting was called to order by President Alan McCain. 

 

Agenda Item #2 - Invocation

 

The invocation was given by Bruce Brown.

 

Agenda Item #3 - Pledge of Allegiance

 

Agenda Item #4 - Presentation to McDonald’s (Darrell Fairburn).

Agenda Item #5 – Recognize LSBA Art Winners (Mary Jones).

 

Ms. Mary Jones, Director of Instruction, recognized the LSBA parish art winners as follows:

 

Ansley Knight     3rd Grade          Mt. Hermon School

Lauren Gerald     8th Grade          Franklinton Jr. High School

Jaslyn Tate        11th Grade         Franklinton High School

 

The students were given a certificate of appreciation in recognition of their work.

 

The Board congratulated each of the winners.

 

Agenda Item #6 - Awards Presentation - Students of the Year (Mary Jones).

 

Supervisor Mary Jones briefly reviewed the Louisiana Students of the Year Awards Program.  The Guidelines for Selection of Candidates were used to select the winners at the school and the parish level.  The four categories for selection included the cumulative grade point average, a portfolio of supporting documents, writing samples, and an interview with the judges.  The following school level winners were introduced by their respective school principals, or designees, and presented plaques from the Washington Parish School Board:

Superintendent Darrell Fairburn then recognized and presented plaques to the Washington Parish Jr. High School Student of the Year 2011-2012, Lauren Lee and the Washington Parish High School Student of the Year 2011-2012, Brad Cooper. 

 

Board members congratulated the Students of the Year.

Agenda Item #7 - Consider a motion to adopt the minutes of the March 8, 2012, regular board meeting (Alan McCain).

 

It was moved by Bruce Brown, seconded by Lesley McKinley, that the Board adopt the minutes of the March 8, 2012, regular board meeting as submitted to each member.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #8 - Consider a motion to authorize advertisement for bids for the purchase of School Supplies for the 2012/2013 school year (Beth Keaton).

 

It was moved by John Wyble, seconded by Dan Slocum, that the Board authorize advertisement for bids for the purchase of School Supplies for the 2012/2013 school year as follows:

 

Advertise on April 18th and 25th

Open bids on May 23rd

Bring to board on June 14th

 

Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #9 - Consider a motion to approve an allocation to schools for the 2012/2013 school year (Beth Keaton).

 

It was moved by Dan Slocum, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the Board approve an allocation to schools for the 2012/2013 school year as follows:

Agenda Item #10 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding bids received on surplus equipment for the School Lunch Program (Marsha Newman).

 

It was moved by John Breland, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the Board approve the bids received on surplus equipment for the School Lunch Program as follows:

It was moved by Lesley McKinley, seconded by Mary Adams, that the Board adopt new Washington Parish School Board Policy File: DIBA – American Recovery and Reinvestment Reporting Requirements.  Motion carried unanimously.

                                           Extend the route of Randall Welch 1.3 miles one way to pick up Conner Riley and Kane Holmes. Effective date: February 29, 2012.

Wesley Ray District:             Extend the route of Tammy Boone 2 miles one way to pick up Stacy Weilbaechez.  Effective date: March 26, 2012.

Superintendent Fairburn stated that Ms. Elaine Morris, custodian, has been a great asset to Varnado High School.
