The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: Dan Slocum, Bruce Brown, John Breland, Karl Bickham, Mary Adams, Alan McCain, Matthew Tate and Freddie Jefferson.  Absent:  Dewitt Perry.

 

Agenda Item #1 - Call to order

 

The meeting was called to order by President Freddie Jefferson.

           

Agenda Item #2 - Invocation

 

The invocation was given by Bruce Brown.

 

Agenda Item #3 - Pledge of Allegiance

 

Agenda Item #4 - Consider a motion to adopt the minutes of the July 15, 2010, regular board meeting (Freddie Jefferson).

 

       It was moved by Karl Bickham, seconded by Matthew Tate, that the Board adopt the minutes of the July 15, 2010, regular board meeting as submitted to each member.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #5 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding a loan for Varnado High School football for a mower (Darrell Fairburn).

 

            It was moved by Mary Adams, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board approve a loan of $6,000.00 to Varnado High School to purchase a mower for the football program.  They will repay $1,000.00 per year.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #6 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding student transfer requests for the 2010/2011 school year (Frances Varnado).

 

            It was moved by Matthew Tate, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board approve the student transfer requests for the 2010/2011 school year as follows:

 

 

Motion carried unanimously.

 

      Agenda Item #7 - Consider a motion to renew the contract of Penny Moses, Adult Education Supervisor (Darrell Fairburn).

 

            It was moved by Matthew Tate, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the Board renew the contract of Penny Moses, Adult Education Supervisor, for a two year period from August 11, 2010 through August 10, 2012.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

            Agenda Item #8 - Consider a motion to allow Willie B. Peters, Jr. to purchase a 2001 Freightliner bus to use as his primary bus (Billy Brignac).

 

            Upon the recommendation of Billy Brignac, Supervisor, it was moved by John Breland, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the Board allow Willie B. Peters, Jr. to purchase a 2001 Freightliner bus to use as his primary bus.  Motion carried unanimously.

              

            Agenda Item #9 - Consider a motion to allow Mecy Kelly to purchase a 2000 International bus to use as her primary bus (Billy Brignac).

 

               Upon the recommendation of Billy Brignac, Supervisor, it was moved by Alan McCain, seconded by Mary Adams, that the Board allow Mecy Kelly to purchase a 2000 International bus to use as her primary bus.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #10 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding Pupil Progression Plan revisions for the 2010/2011 school year (Richard Kennedy).

Agenda Item #12 - Superintendent’s Report

 

            Superintendent Fairburn gave an overview of the 2010 Summer Leap Remediation scores.  60% of the 4th graders moved ahead and 88% of 8th graders in the district moved ahead. 

 

Agenda Item #13 - Other business from board members

 

            Karl Bickham recognized John Wyble, District 2 candidate.

 

            The timeline for the Evaluation of the Superintendent was given to each board member as follows:

 

1. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 - Each board member and superintendent will receive a copy of the evaluation instrument to be used to evaluate the superintendent.

 

2. Tuesday, September 28, 2010 - Each board member will deliver his/her evaluation to the president/designee at least three weeks before the evaluation session.

 

3. Tuesday, September 28, 2010 - The superintendent will complete a self-appraisal and provide to the president/designee at least three weeks before the evaluation session.

 

3. Monday, November 8, 2010 - One week prior to the evaluation session the president will have already tallied board members individual calculations and comments and furnish each board member and superintendent with a composite of the evaluation.

 

4. Call a Special Board Meeting the 3rd week in November 2010.
