The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: Dan Slocum, Bruce Brown, John Breland, Mary Adams, Karl Bickham, Dewitt Perry, Alan McCain, Matthew Tate and Freddie Jefferson. Absent: None.
Agenda Item #1 - Call to order
The meeting was called to order by President Freddie Jefferson.

Agenda Item #3 - Pledge of Allegiance
Agenda Item #4 - Recognition of Pine FFA Chapter (Darrell Fairburn).
Superintendent Darrell Fairburn recognized Billy Passman and J. T. Thomas, Leaders of the Pine FFA and the Pine FFA Chapter for being the number two chapter in the state. The chapter submitted the most proficiency awards in the state, with 38 members out of 70 receiving state recognition. Of the 38, 9 went to the national level and all 9 placed in the bronze level as follows:

Susan Smith - Agricultural Sales - Placement Bronze
Lance Barber - Agricultural Sales - Entrepreneur Bronze

Stephen Jones - Diversified Livestock - Entrepreneur Bronze

Eric Crain, Brianna Creel, Jared Magee, Dustin Williams, and Joshua Williams all received the FFA American Degree which is the highest degree of membership awarded to a student.
Pine Chapter was ranked as a three star chapter on the national level, which is the highest level to be attained.

The Board congratulated the students and leaders for a job well done. They also encouraged them to keep up the hard work and strive for higher goals.
Agenda Item #5 - Consider a motion to adopt the minutes of the August 6, 2009, regular board meeting (Freddie Jefferson).
It was moved by Matthew Tate, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board adopt the minutes of the August 6, 2009, regular board meeting as submitted to each member. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #6 - Consider a motion to adopt the Louisiana Compliance Questionnaire (Donna Alonzo).
It was moved by Karl Bickham, seconded by Dewitt Perry, that the Board adopt the Louisiana Compliance Questionnaire as presented to each member. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #7 - Consider a motion to employ an Assistant Principal, Franklinton High School (Richard Kennedy).
Upon the recommendation of Superintendent Darrell Fairburn, it was moved by Matthew Tate, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board employ Jeremy Gueldner, FHS Assistant Principal, for a two year contract beginning August 21, 2009 through August 20, 2011. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #8 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding Personnel and Transportation Adjustments (Richard Kennedy).
Upon the recommendation of Richard Kennedy, Personnel Director, it was moved by Dan Slocum, seconded by Matthew Tate, that the Board approve the Personnel and Transportation Adjustments as follows:

TRANSPORTATION ADJUSTMENTS
Franklinton District: Extend the route of Linda G. Magee 3.9 miles one way to pick up 8th graders from FJHS to FHS in the afternoon for Band Class. Effective date: August 6, 2009.
Extend the route of Linda G. Magee 4.3 miles one way to pick up Milton Gonzalez and Josman Alvarado. Effective date: August 10, 2009.
Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #9 - Superintendent’s Report
Add to the Agenda: It was moved by Matthew Tate, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board split the route of Natalie Hatteberg for the 1st semester only effective September 1, 2009 at a cost of $17,985.26. Motion carried unanimously.

Dan Slocum invited everyone to the Mt. Hermon vs. Pine scrimmage game on Friday, August 21, 2009.
Bruce Brown asked the Board to consider hiring an additional part-time secretary at Thomas Elementary School. This would give them two full time positions.
