The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: Dan Slocum, Bruce Brown, John Breland, Freddie Jefferson, Karl Bickham, Dewitt Perry, Alan McCain and Matthew Tate. Absent: Mary Adams.

Agenda Item #4 - Recognize Captain Lyle Schmitz (Darrell Fairburn).
Ms. Lisa Tanner, Principal, FHS recognized Captain Schmitz. He served as the JROTC Instructor at FHS for 12 years. He was in the Marine Corps for 26 years. FHS was ranked in the top 20% Marine Schools in the Nation under his leadership.
The Board congratulated Captain Schmitz on a job well done.

Agenda Item #8 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding Student Accident Blanket Insurance coverage for the 2009/2010 school year (Beth Fussell).
Upon the recommendation of Beth Fussell, Finance Director, it was moved by Dan Slocum, seconded by Matthew Tate, that the Board approve Monumental Life with an annual premium of $27,400.00 for student accident blanket insurance for the 2009/2010 school year. Motion carried unanimously.

Agenda Item #13 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding quotes received on restroom repairs at Mt. Hermon School (Billy Brignac).
Upon the recommendation of Billy Brignac, it was moved by John Breland, seconded by Dewitt Perry, that the Board accept the low quote from Brandon Fussell Construction, LLC, Franklinton, LA in the amount of $25,850.00 for restroom repairs at Mt. Hermon School. Motion carried unanimously. Other quotes submitted: David Burris, Franklinton, LA - $27,177.00 and Newman Brothers Construction, LLC, Franklinton, LA - $36,360.00.
Agenda Item #14 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding quotes received on new air conditioners at Mt. Hermon School (Billy Brignac).
Upon the recommendation of Billy Brignac, it was moved by Dan Slocum, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the Board accept the low quote from S & M A/C and Heating, LLC, Franklinton, LA in the amount of 15, 875.00 for Trane units. Motion carried unanimously. Other quote submitted: Smiths A/C & Heating, LLC, Franklinton, LA - $23,000.00.

It was moved by Alan McCain, seconded by Matthew Tate, that the Board approve the Pupil Progression Plan revisions for the 2009/2010 school year. Motion carried unanimously.

It was moved by Matthew Tate, seconded by Dan Slocum, that the Board renew the contract of Richard Kennedy, Assistant Superintendent for the period of August 9, 2009 - August 8, 2012. Motion carried unanimously.

It was moved by Matthew Tate, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board renew the contract of Marsha Newman, Supervisor of Food Service for the period of August 15, 2009 - August 14, 2011. Motion carried unanimously.

Agenda Item #23 - Superintendents Report
Superintendent Fairburn invited all Board members to the staff development meeting on August 3rd at the Special Education auditorium at 8:30 a.m. Bill Daggett will be the guest speaker.
Governor Jindal was at the Mt. Hermon School on Tuesday, July 14th at 2:30 p.m. for a community meeting.
Agenda Item #24 - Other business from board members
Dan Slocum recognized Ms. Michelle Hickman, Parent from Mt. Hermon School. Ms. Hickman expressed her concerns to the Board regarding the sanitation and maintenance issues at Mt. Hermon School. The Board advised Ms. Hickman that they would take her concerns under advisement.
Alan McCain thanked Ms. Ruth Stoudenmier for hosting the Governor on Tuesday.
