The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: Richard Thomas, Jr., Dan Slocum, Karl Bickham, Bruce Brown, Mary Adams, Dewitt Perry, and Alan McCain. Absent:  Matthew Tate and Freddie Jefferson.

 

Agenda Item #1 - Call to order

 

The meeting was called to order by President Richard Thomas, Jr.  He welcomed School Board Attorney Wayne Kuhn, news media and guests.

 

Agenda Item #2 - Invocation

 

The invocation was given by Bruce Brown.

 

Agenda Item #3 - Pledge of Allegiance

 

Agenda Item #4 - Consider a motion to adopt the minutes of the August 9, 2007, regular board meeting (Richard Thomas).

 

It was moved by Dan Slocum, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board adopt the minutes of the August 9, 2007, regular board meeting as submitted to each member.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #5 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding quotes received on painting of the School Board Office (William Brignac).

 

Upon the recommendation of William Brignac, Supervisor, it was moved by Bruce Brown, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board accept the low quote of $4,800.00 from Phillip Slocum, for the painting of the School Board Office.  For:  Karl Bickham, Bruce Brown, Mary Adams, Richard Thomas, Jr., Dewitt Perry, and Alan McCain.  Recused:  Dan Slocum.  Motion carried.  One other quote submitted: Jessie Knight, Franklinton , LA  - $5,000.00.

 

Agenda Item #6 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding quotes received on erosion problem on Franklinton High School Football field (William Brignac).

 

Upon the recommendation of William Brignac, Supervisor, it was moved by Karl Bickham, seconded by Dewitt Perry, that the Board approve the low quote of $9,500.00 from Seal Dozer Service, Franklinton, LA for the erosion problem on Franklinton High School Football field.  Motion carried unanimously.  One other quote submitted:  Dennis Glass Construction Co., L.L.C., Folsom, LA - $9,450.00.  This quote had 50' less pipe than Seal Dozer.

 

Agenda Item #7 - Consider a motion to authorize advertisement for Tennis Courts at Franklinton High School to be paid out of Office of State Parks grant (Donna Alonzo).

 

It was moved by Alan McCain, seconded by Dewitt Perry, that the Board authorize advertisement for Tennis Courts at Franklinton High School to be paid out of the Office of State Parks grant.  Motion carried unanimously.

Agenda Item #8 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding Personnel and Transportation Adjustments (Richard Kennedy).

 

Upon the recommendation of Richard Kennedy, Personnel Director, it was moved by Dan Slocum, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the Board approve the Personnel and Transportation Adjustments as follows:

Agenda Item #9 - Superintendent's Report

 

ADD TO THE AGENDA:  It was moved by Alan McCain, seconded by Karl Bickham, that the Board consider a motion to advertise to sale surplus equipment from School Lunch.  Motion carried unanimously.

Superintendent Fairburn stated that enrollment for the 07/08 school year is up slightly from last year.

Dan Slocum stated that Mt. Hermon would host its first football game on Monday, August 27, 2007.  He encouraged everyone to attend.

 

The September 27, 2007 board meeting will be held at Mt. Hermon School.
