The Washington Parish School Board met in special session on the above date with the following members present: Richard Thomas, Jr., Dan Slocum, Karl Bickham, Bruce Brown, Mary Adams, Dewitt Perry, Alan McCain, Matthew Tate and Freddie Jefferson. Absent:  None.

 

Agenda Item #1 - Call to order

 

The meeting was called to order by President Richard Thomas, Jr.  He welcomed School Board Attorney Wayne Kuhn, news media and guests.

 

Agenda Item #2 - Invocation

 

The invocation was given by Bruce Brown.

 

Agenda Item #3 - Pledge of Allegiance

 

Agenda Item #4 - Consider a motion to adopt the minutes of the July 12, 2007, regular board meeting (Richard Thomas).

 

It was moved by Dan Slocum, seconded by Matthew Tate, that the Board adopt the minutes of the July 12, 2007, regular board meeting as submitted to each member.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #5 - Consider a motion to allow Michael Sharp to purchase a 1999 GMC bus to be used as his primary bus (William Brignac).

 

Upon the recommendation of William Brignac, Supervisor, it was moved by Bruce Brown, seconded by Matthew Tate, that the Board allow Michael Sharp to purchase a 1999 GMC bus to be used as his primary bus.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #6 - Consider a motion to allow James W. Mulina, Jr. to purchase a 1997 International bus to be used as his primary bus (William Brignac).

 

Upon the recommendation of William Brignac, Supervisor, it was moved by Bruce Brown, seconded by Karl Bickham, that the Board allow James W. Mulina, Jr. to purchase a 1997 International bus to be used as his primary bus.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #7 - Consider a motion to allow Cecealine "Pepe" Tate to purchase a 1998 International bus to be used as his primary bus (William Brignac).

 

Upon the recommendation of William Brignac, Supervisor, it was moved by Bruce Brown, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board allow Cecealine "Pepe" Tate to purchase a 1998 International bus to be used as his primary bus.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #8 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding salary schedules (Karl Bickham).

 

Upon the recommendation of the Finance Committee, it was moved by Karl Bickham, seconded by Dan Slocum, that the Board adopt the salary schedules as presented to the Board.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #9 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding Personnel and Transportation Adjustments (Richard Kennedy).

 

Upon the recommendation of the Personnel Committee, it was moved by Matthew Tate, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board adopt the Personnel and Transportation Adjustments as follows:

Agenda Item #10 - Superintendent's Report

 

Sandy Morgan, Math Coordinator, introduced Renee Carpenter, Middle School Math Coach and Janet Williams, Elementary Math Coach.  They gave a brief overview of their duties and responsibilities. 

 

Add to the Agenda:  It was moved by Dewitt Perry, seconded by Alan McCain, that the Board discuss and take appropriate action regarding quotes received on flooring at Enon Elementary School.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

It was moved by Dewitt Perry, seconded by Freddie Jefferson, that the Board accept the low quote from Mike's Flooring, Franklinton, LA in the amount of $3,639.00 for flooring at Enon Elementary School.  Motion carried unanimously.  Other bids submitted:  Magic City Flooring, Bogalusa, LA - $4,389.72; Decorating Showroom, Franklinton, LA - $4,547.60 and Kennedy's Decorating Center, Inc., Franklinton, LA - $4,802.00.

 

Add to the Agenda:  It was moved by Freddie Jefferson, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the Board consider a motion to allow Cecealine "Pepe" Tate to replace a 1995 International with a 1995 International/Carpenter bus in the Spare Bus Pool.  Motion carried unanimously.

Summer school test results will be in on August 6th.

All board members were grateful that they were able to support the salary schedule changes.
