The Washington Parish School Board met in special session on the above date with the following members present: Richard Thomas, Jr., Dan Slocum, Karl Bickham, Bruce Brown, Hayward Boone, Susanne Jones, Holly James, Matthew Tate, and Freddie Jefferson. Absent: None.

Agenda Item #3 - Pledge of Allegiance
Agenda Item #4 - Consider a motion to enter into Executive Session under LA R.S. 42:6.1A(1) concerning the discussion of character, professional competence or physical or mental health of candidate for the position of Superintendent (Richard Thomas).
It was moved by Karl Bickham, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the Board enter into Executive Session under LA R.S. 42:6.1A(1) concerning the discussion of character, professional competence or physical or mental health of candidate for the position of Superintendent. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #5 - Consider a motion to return to regular session.
It was moved by Hayward Boone, seconded by Matthew Tate, that the Board return to regular session. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda Item #6 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding naming a new Superintendent of Schools (Richard Thomas).
It was moved by Susanne Jones, seconded by Holly James, that the Board employ Darrell Fairburn, Superintendent of School pending negotiation of contract. For: Dan Slocum, Karl Bickham, Hayward Boone, Susanne Jones, Holly James, Matthew Tate and Freddie Jefferson. Against: Bruce Brown. Motion carried.
The Board thanked the committees for their input in the process of hiring a new superintendent. Board members congratulated Darrell Fairburn and asked everyone to support the new superintendent and work with him.
Agenda Item #7 - Discuss and take action concerning a contract for the position of Superintendent of Schools (Richard Thomas).
Deleted until August 10, 2006 board meeting.
Add to the Agenda: It was moved by Freddie Jefferson, seconded by Matthew Tate, to discuss and take appropriate action regarding a building at Pine School. Motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Freddie Jefferson, seconded by Matthew Tate, that the Board award a bid to Hunt Builders, Franklinton, LA in the amount of $13,000.00 for a building at Pine School. Motion carried unanimously. Other bids submitted: Morris Metal Buildings, Franklinton, LA - $14,400.00 and Patten Metal Express, Franklinton, LA - $15,200.00.
