Agenda Item #8 - Consider a motion to authorize David Scott, Bus Operator, to purchase a 2004 Freightliner/Thomas school bus to replace the 1995 International/Thomas bus he presently drives (Eathel Seal).

 

It was moved by Susanne Jones, seconded by Hayward Boone, that the Board authorize David Scott, Bus Operator, to purchase a 2004 Freightliner/Thomas school bus to replace the 1995 International/Thomas bus he presently drives, as recommended by Eathel Seal, Transportation Supervisor. Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #9 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding Personnel and Transportation Adjustments (Richard Kennedy).

 

It was moved by Hayward Boone, seconded by Matthew Tate, that the Board approve the following Personnel and Transportation Adjustments, as recommended by Richard Kennedy, Assistant Superintendent:

SABBATICAL MEDICAL LEAVE:

 

Franklinton Elementary School: Kristina L. Crain, Title I Teacher, Sabbatical Medical Leave effective the Fall semester only of the 2003/2004 school year.

 

EMPLOY:

 

Enon Elementary School: Tammy H. Penton, Class-Size Reduction Teacher, effective March 10, 2003, and for the remainder of the 2002/2003 school year only (CERTIFIED).

 

                                                         TRANSPORTATION ADJUSTMENTS

 

FRANKLINTON DISTRICT:                    Extend the route of Evelyn Polk .9 mile one way to pick up J. Hong Kim.  Effective date: February 3, 2003.

 

Extend the route of Evelyn Polk 2.0 miles one way to pick up Tommy Mizell.  Effective date: February 27, 2003.

 

WESLEY RAY DISTRICT:                      Extend the route of Yvonne Brumfield 9.2 miles one way to pick up a Special Education student.  Effective date: February 25, 2003.

 

Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #10 - Superintendent's Report.

 

Superintendent Fowler complimented the basketball teams of all four high schools for advancing to the play-offs.  Franklinton High, Pine High and Varnado High were defeated in the first round; Mt. Hermon was defeated in the semi-finals.  The Board requested that letters of commendation be sent to the schools.

 

At the request of Superintendent Fowler, it was moved by Susanne Jones, seconded by Holly James, that the following item be added to the agenda: Discuss and take appropriate action regarding quotations received for paving parking areas around the school board office.  Motion carried unanimously.  Two (2) quotations were received, which were as follows:  Crochet's Paving, Bogalusa, LA - $12,800.00, and RJ Booty Construction Company, Inc., Kentwood, LA - $19,100.00.  It was moved by Matthew Tate, seconded by Susanne Jones, that the Board accept the low quotations submitted by Crochet's Paving in the amount of $12,800.00, for paving parking areas around the school board office, as recommended by Superintendent Fowler.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #11 - Other business from board members.

 

It was moved by Dan Slocum, seconded by Bruce Brown, that the following item be added to the agenda: Consider a motion to send a letter of commendation to Mt. Hermon School for the basketball team advancing to the semi-finals.  Motion carried unanimously.  It was moved by Dan Slocum, seconded by Susanne Jones, that the Board send a letter of commendation to Mt. Hermon School for the basketball team advancing to the semi-finals.  Motion carried unanimously.  As stated previously, letters of commendation will be sent to all high schools.

 

Hayward Boone introduced Harl Penton, the new football coach at Varnado High School.  Mr. Penton made a few remarks regarding his plans for the football program.

 

Superintendent Fowler announced the following public meetings to discuss the bond issue:

March 20, 2003, 6:30 P.M.         Pine School
