The Washington Parish School Board met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: President Harold Smith, Karl Bickham, Juanita Barker, Holly James, Susanne Jones, Hayward Boone, Richard N. Thomas, Bruce Brown, and Freddie Jefferson.  Absent: None.

 

Agenda Item #1 - Call to order.

 

The meeting was called to order by President Smith.  He welcomed School Board Attorney Wayne Kuhn, guests, and news media.

 

Agenda Item #2 - Invocation.

 

The invocation was given by Bruce Brown.

 

Agenda Item #3 - Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Agenda Item #4 - Consider a motion to adopt the minutes of the August 10, 2000, regular board meeting.

 

It was moved by Juanita Barker, seconded by Karl Bickham, that the Board adopt the minutes of the August 10, 2000, regular board meeting, as submitted to each board member.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #5 - Discuss and take appropriate action regarding Personnel Adjustments (Richard Kennedy).

 

It was moved by Freddie Jefferson, seconded by Juanita Barker, that the following item be added to the Personnel Adjustments: Change of Employment Status: Wendy Freeman, Special Education Teacher, Wesley Ray Elementary School, TO Regular Teacher, Wesley Ray Elementary School, effective August 24, 2000.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

It was moved by Freddie Jefferson, seconded by Holly James, that the following Personnel Adjustments be approved, as recommended by Richard Kennedy, Assistant Superintendent:

Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #6 - Superintendent's Report.

 

Superintendent Fowler gave board members copies of the official results of the

Summer 2000 Criterion-Referenced Test for grades four (4) and eight (8), along with a State/District Achievement Spring/Summer Comparison Report.  The official results were released September 13, 2000, by the State Department of Education.

 

At the request of Superintendent Fowler, it was moved by Susanne Jones, seconded by Richard Thomas, that the following item be added to the agenda: Consider a motion to schedule a special board committee meeting on September 25, 2000, at 6:30 P.M., for the purpose of hearing and discussing recommendations by John Norris, Insurance Consultant, regarding the Board=s placement of Property and Casualty Insurance.  Motion carried unanimously.  It was moved by Holly James, seconded by Susanne Jones, that the Board schedule a special board committee meeting on September 25, 2000, at 6:30 P.M., for the purpose of hearing and discussing recommendations by John Norris, Insurance Consultant, regarding the Board's placement of Property and Casualty Insurance.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item #7 - Other business from board members.

 

Board members commended the central office staff and principals for the excellent staff development held August 15 & 16, 2000.

 

President Smith expressed appreciation to Joan Knight for the attractive  renovation of the Board Room.  Members of the maintenance crew assisted with this project.

 

Agenda Item #8 - Consider a motion to adjourn.

 

It was moved by Juanita Barker, seconded by Richard Thomas, that the Board adjourn.  Motion carried unanimously.
